File is a wonderful utility that is used to identify
the type of a file.  File can identify over 1,000
different types of files including executable, text,
sound, graphic, movie, archive, library, device,
directory and more.  With the '-z' option, file can
also check inside a compressed file and tell you the
type of file inside.
