Emacs Implementation Notes

EMACS looks for the .emacsrc initialization file in either the $HOME directory (if the HOME environment variable is set), or in the C:\users\default directory.

When emacs is started from the CD the - (dashes) are replaced by _ (underscores) in the .el and .elc files for ISO compliance. When installed on your system uses the "normal" - (dash) .el and .elc file names.
