The Porting Center
What Is The RTR Porting
Center?
The RTR Porting Center is
a network of computing resources comprised of a broad spectrum of systems,
software and related devices. This computing center represents the hub of
operations at Ready-to-Run Software and provides the foundation layer
necessary to support the porting and cross-platform engineering and support
efforts of both RTR and our clients. The Porting Center is also available
as a host facility for your applications and databases as one component of
the services provided by RTR.
The Porting Center has
two primary functions:
·
As the industry leader in cross-platform services and software
porting, the RTR staff requires access to a
myriad of environments. The Porting Center acts as the backbone of our work
and allows us to remain nimble and responsive to the engineering, test,
maintenance and support requirements of our clients. As such, RTR is well
prepared to meet the challenges of the most diverse cross-platform demands
of the leading software companies.
·
The Porting
Center resources are available to companies and individuals as a
single-point hosting service allowing you to perform the work yourself.
Often, Porting Center users will have a short-term or infrequent need for
specific platform or operating environment, e.g. to perform software
evaluation, to verify portability of code, or to conduct a porting project
which is easily accomplished internally or may be less challenging and,
therefore, which may not require the software porting tools or experience of
the RTR staff. The flexibility of tapping into the resources of the RTR
Porting Center offers both cost and time benefits that are truly invaluable
to this type of work.
For customers
who wish to do the bulk of their porting themselves, Ready-to-Run's Porting
Center offers access to a heterogeneous, backed-up network of Unix and
Windows systems. Each system is maintained and monitored, and each is
equipped with the latest software development tools. Ready-to-Run consulting
services are, of course, available to Porting Center clients.

What Resources Are
Available In The RTR Porting Center?
RTR currently
maintains a heterogeneous, backed-up network consisting of over 70 different
operating environments (versions of O/S, platforms, etc.) making this
center one of the most unique computing facilities anywhere in the world
today. For example, The Porting Center now offers 15 different UNIX
platforms as well as all of the Microsoft® Windows server
platforms.

All platforms are on one LAN with a common NFS environment.
Contact RTR today and ask for our "Introductory Overview" document so
that you can learn more about the Porting Center.
Access is
available both remotely and on-site. Remote access is available via dial-up
modem or via the Internet 24 hours a day. Porting work can also be done at
our corporate headquarters. The Porting Center, located in Lansing, New York,
is available during regular business hours. Center clients
have the services of a trained System Administrator available who will set
up accounts and assist in getting the client up and running.

For situations in which
the Porting Center has the resources that you need but your organization
does not have the time or the cross-platform experience then contact RTR for
